Guide for authors

What we publish

  • Research articles — original empirical work in environmental health, chemical exposomics, biomarker discovery, and population epidemiology.
  • Reviews — comprehensive surveys of methods, populations, or exposure classes.
  • Commentary — perspective pieces on emerging issues and controversies.
  • Editorials — by invitation; framing each issue's contributions.
  • Letters to the editor — responses to published work.

How peer review works

Manuscripts undergo single-blind peer review by at least two independent experts. Initial editorial decisions are typically returned within two weeks; full peer review averages four weeks. The Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision based on reviewer recommendations.

Open access and licensing

All accepted articles are published open access. Authors retain copyright; individual article licensing (typically CC BY 4.0) is indicated on each article page. Article Processing Charges are under review at launch — invited contributions are free, and waivers are available for authors from low- and middle-income countries.

Before you submit

Read the Guide for authors for manuscript format, reference style, and submission requirements. Ensure your data and analysis code will be made available; see the data availability policy.
