Everything you need to prepare and submit a manuscript to Exposome. Read this page in full before starting a submission.
Manuscript types
Exposome publishes five types of contribution:
- Research articles — original empirical work. Typical length 3,500–8,000 words excluding references; up to 8 display items (figures + tables).
- Reviews — comprehensive surveys (systematic or narrative). Typical length 5,000–12,000 words; up to 10 display items.
- Commentary — perspective pieces on a single issue. Typical length 1,000–2,500 words; up to 2 display items.
- Editorials — by invitation only. Typical length 800–1,500 words.
- Letters to the editor — responses to published articles. Up to 800 words.
Manuscript format
Submit a single Word (.docx) document containing the manuscript text and either embedded figures (low-resolution placement copies) or with figures attached separately as TIFF/PNG/EPS. Use double line spacing, 11pt body, continuous line numbering. The first page should carry the title, full author list, affiliations, and a corresponding-author email.
Reference style: Vancouver (numbered, bracketed). DOIs required for all journal references where available.
SI units throughout; chemical structures should be machine-readable (InChI or SMILES) where possible.
Peer review
All submissions undergo single-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers. Initial editorial assessment is typically returned within two weeks; full peer review averages four to six weeks.
Authors may suggest reviewers and may request that specific individuals not be approached. The Editor-in-Chief may use or disregard these suggestions at editorial discretion.
Data and code availability
Manuscripts reporting empirical work must include a Data Availability Statement describing where the underlying data and analysis code can be obtained. Acceptable repositories include Zenodo, Figshare, Dryad, and discipline-specific archives (MetaboLights, PRIDE, GEO, dbGaP, EGA). For sensitive human subject data, a controlled-access mechanism must be described.
Failure to make data available without a documented justification may result in rejection.
Open access & licensing
All accepted articles are published open access. Authors retain copyright. The default license is CC BY 4.0; authors may opt for CC BY-NC where required by funders. Licensing terms are indicated on the article page.
Article Processing Charges
APCs are under review at launch. Invited contributions are free. Full and partial waivers are available for authors from low- and middle-income countries on request to the editorial office. The journal will not reject a submission for inability to pay an APC.
For reviewers
Reviewer guidelines are on a separate page. Express interest in reviewing for the journal at reviewers@exposomejournal.com.
